Global Connection Groups
The DREAM Project customizes cultural exchange and service-learning trips to ensure our local communities receive the support they need, but just as important, DREAM’s Global Connection Groups empower international volunteers and enhance their understanding of global citizenship. Our trained and certified local guides will match your group with a community project that incorporates your goals, skills and desired experiences to create an unforgettable connection. DREAM is there from the moment you land in the Dominican Republic until the moment you pass back through customs, organizing and managing all of your on-the ground needs, letting our groups focus on their cultural exchange and work within the community. DREAM has been hosting visiting groups in the Dominican Republic for 16 years, with more than 100 groups and 700 youth experiencing the adventure of a lifetime. Please contact us if you are interested organizing a service project.
As a general rule, groups must have a minimum of 8 students, with at least one chaperone per 8 students. The average per-person cost for a trip is $125/day, which includes airport pickup from the Puerto Plata Airport, local guides, food and water, accommodations, transportation, project organization, all materials and logistics, and fees for activities and excursions. We also offer a $70/half day option, which includes guides, project organization, all materials and lunch.
To help offset the cost of a trip, we suggest holding several fundraisers, from school dances to selling candy bars. We recommend the Equal Exchange fundraiser, which can also be educational. Equal Exchange supports Dominican farmers through the sale of their fair-trade cacao beans. A case of 12 chocolate bars can yield a profit of $18, so the fundraiser can be very lucrative. The fundraiser can also be incorporated into curriculum on the Dominican Republic. View their Educational Tools for more information.
