Mission & Vision

Mission

The Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring (DREAM) Project is a US 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides equitable access to quality education for children born into poverty in rural areas and small communities of the Dominican Republic by combining volunteerism, international awareness, and community involvement into a sustainable support system.

We fulfill our Mission by:

  • Building classrooms, computer labs, libraries, science labs, and sport recreation areas;
  • Providing Dominican and international volunteers to teach in classrooms, libraries, and laboratories;
  • Organizing and operating summer camps, youth groups, preschools, and teacher training facilities;
  • Securing books, school supplies, and educational materials for the classrooms;
  • Working in partnership with the Dominican Government, the United Nations, the U.S. Peace Corps, non-governmental organizations, universities, and high schools throughout the world.

We are sustained through the generous contribution of time, talent, funds, materials and supplies from individuals, foundations, and businesses.

Vision

It is our vision that all children of the North Coast and Cordillera Central have the opportunity to receive an education; they have the opportunity to develop their minds and learn to their full potential; that they are able to go to school staffed with qualified teachers, and not be sent home due to a strike or lack of teachers; that children have books in their libraries, microscopes for science class, and balls and jump ropes to use in gym class; that all children have pens, pencils and writing paper; that all students have affordable ways to get to and from school instead of spending 10% of their parents’ income on daily transportation; that uniforms are free for children of families who cannot afford them; that their classrooms have electricity every day; that their school roofs do not leak; that there are textbooks in school throughout the term; that 14 year olds are not in the same classes with 9 year olds; that their classrooms have working fans and windows that open; that children who enjoy learning are not forced to drop out of school early to work, but rather are required by law to stay in school at least until they pass 6th grade; that teachers themselves have a rudimentary education; that teachers will not have to buy their supplies out of their own income; that they are provided with textbooks and able to photocopy material for their students; that their classrooms have paper, chalk and light bulbs.

Finally, it is our vision that we will change lives and peoples’ destinies. Because we exist, the world will be a better place for the children and families of the North Coast and North Slope of the Cordillera Central in the Dominican Republic.
