DREAM Project and jetBlue transform reading into an adventure for children in Sosúa

JetBlue Joins Book Fair with DREAM Project Team

La Unión, Sosúa, Dominican Republic – DREAM Project, a non-profit organization that provides high-quality educational opportunities for children, youth and families in the Dominican Republic, joined forces with the airline jetBlue to hold a book fair at the Professor Jeremías Kerry Green elementary school on the North Coast of the country called “Flying with Books.” This book fair is part of DREAM’s My Very Own Library (MVOL) program, which seeks to promote reading from an early age by providing primary school students with quality stories that they can take home. MVOL was recently recognized by UNESCO for excellence and innovation in the field of literacy.

On Thursday, November 23, thanks to the sponsorship and commitment of jetBlue, this impressive activity was carried out in the community of La Unión, Sosúa. The extraordinary event not only provided reading materials to more than 500 students from at-risk communities, but also engaged them in a unique experience combining fun, learning and a passion for reading.

DREAM was thrilled to have a team of jetBlue volunteers actively participate in the fair. Students immersed themselves in reading sessions and participated in educational talks, including a fascinating presentation by Dominican illustrator Nathalia Rivera. The fair also brought a spotlight to new publications written by talented young students, who were the winners of the book competition organized by DREAM Project earlier this year.

Fenelix Aracena, director of the Prof. Jeremías Kerry Green school, expressed his pride and gratitude to jetBlue and its volunteers for dedicating their support to the community of Sosúa through dynamic local activities, such as the book fair. He highlighted the importance of reading as a powerful tool to travel to different places, feed the imagination and guarantee a more promising future.

Luis Paredes, jetBlue team coordinator, shared his enthusiasm on behalf of the team, stating: "We feel honored to collaborate in the promotion of reading; this means a significant advance for the community."

DREAM Project is deeply grateful to jetBlue for its collaboration and commitment to promoting a love of reading in the communities that need it most.
