Teacher Training

“Research shows that effective teachers are the most important factor contributing to student achievement.”

Our Solution

DREAM’s Teacher Training program supports public school teachers and university students studying education. Through professional development workshops and regular in-person support, educators learn innovative strategies and are introduced to new materials to improve lesson delivery. Teachers' knowledge is reinforced to manage student behavior, improve literacy and math scores and adequately assess student progress.

Futuros

The Futuros program is focused on training future teachers via an intensive four-month internship program for students of education at local universities. The program focuses on three key areas:

  1. Coaching in best-practice strategies in a classroom setting

  2. Improving teacher knowledge in math and literacy

  3. Creating positive attitudes regarding the capacity of every student to learn

Futuros Curriculum

The Futuros curriculum utilizes a Comprehension Guide that strategically trains student teachers on how to not only teach reading but also promote a culture of reading amongst students in Dominican public schools through highly interactive, developmentally appropriate techniques. The guide includes concepts of reading comprehension; strategies to promote comprehension, like what to do before, during and after reading; and approaches to advance students’ vocabulary.

What our teachers say:

“Students’ personal reinforcement, maintaining discipline in the classroom, good psychological treatment of the student, creativity in literacy activities, establishing clear rules in the classroom, teamwork [and] effective coordination are some of the many good treasures I was able to obtain…I had a very beautiful, rewarding and meaningful experience in the Futuros program thanks to the good and welcoming treatment of the people with whom I was in contact and because The DREAM Project and its educational policies are totally different from the inert policies that I already knew…I just say thank you.”

“The experience at DREAM was very satisfactory, since I achieved my goal. I obtained a lot of skills in the workshops at DREAM. It is [an organization] that has a very important purpose. Its mission, vision and values go hand-in-hand with the needs of children. I really liked working in this place, because the people are very capable…I was able to obtain many skills, abilities and dexterity in the different spaces in which I collaborate in one way or another. I loved the [program] very much. I worked with various members of the institution. Thank you very much for allowing me to be a part of that program.”
